The Ṛgveda is the oldest of the four Vedas and the foundation of the Vedic corpus — 1,028 hymns (sūktas) addressed to deities including Agni, Indra, Varuṇa, Soma, and Uṣas. Composed over centuries and orally transmitted with remarkable fidelity.
